Overview
Overvoltage is a common phenomenon in China's 6-35kV power supply system. If there are no preventive measures, overvoltage impact may occur at any time, which will exacerbate the insulation aging of the system's electrical equipment; On the other hand, it greatly increases the failure rate of insulation breakdown in the electrical equipment of the system. Abnormal overvoltage may be external or internal to the equipment or device. The invasion pathway of external overvoltage can be conducted through wires and circuits, as well as through electrostatic induction and electromagnetic induction. The occurrence of overvoltage may be regular and periodic, but more often it is random. Therefore, in most cases, it is difficult to accurately grasp. Abnormal overvoltage can be divided into lightning overvoltage, switching overvoltage, ferromagnetic resonance overvoltage, and arc grounding overvoltage based on their different causes.
At present, there is no complete protection plan for these overvoltage, and accidents such as cable damage, motor insulation breakdown, lightning arrester damage, and voltage transformer burning often occur. The causes of such accidents are not only related to the performance of overvoltage protection products installed in the system, but also to the complexity of the system itself. For different systems, when using overvoltage protection products, it is necessary to consider the type of transmission line, network structure of transmission and distribution lines, nature of load, and grounding method of the system.
For such a complex system, it is difficult to use one or more overvoltage protection products in isolation to comprehensively suppress various types of system overvoltage, such as lightning arresters,combined overvoltage protectors, arc suppression coils, various principle arc suppression devices, and PT harmonic suppressors. Although various overvoltage protection products are installed in these systems, the protection characteristics of the products cannot be well matched, making it impossible to completely and effectively suppress system overvoltage. This is especially true for overvoltage protectors from different manufacturers installed in the same system.
